The upcoming Marvel land is unveiled little by little… Disneyland Paris announced the opening date of the new zone: July 20, 2022. A new land including two new rides including a highly-awaited one: Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure. After Iron Man settling in a revisit of the Rock’n’Roller Coaster - Spider-Man is given a full ride.
What is it about then? An announced made by Marvel Global Portfolio creative manager Scott Drake, who on the occasion of the opening of the new Marvel super-heroes’ season in 2018, gave a few details about this experience where guests will be part of the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (WEB), a company founded by Tony Stark aiming at “developing new technologies for Super Heroes, starting with the improvement of Spider-Man’s outfit”.
The principle of the attraction is rather simple: as soon as guests enter the ride, they queue (Stand-By, FastPass and Singler Rider) to then head to the different preshow rooms before arriving to the boarding area. 3D glasses on the noses, children and parents can then have a seat in a 8-seat vehicle to enjoy Spider-Mand's brand-new adventure and help him fight bad guys shooting on the webs of automated spiders.
In 2019, during the D23 Expo, Walt Disney Park and Resort president Bob Chapek has dropped a few infos about this brand-new ride. Children and parents can try the latest technologies developed by Peter Parker and throw webs on several "spiderbots" that have became out of control. Precisions acocmpanies by several concept arts.
A new “immersive and interactive” experience that will call in “a smart mix of innovative technologies and special effects” giving the opportunity to children and their parents “to become Super Heroes themselves”, thanks to a brand-new interface using cutting-edge technologies.
A new ride said to be in lieu of Armaggedon – that closed on April 1, 2019, and the Sortiraparis editorial board tried. As for the décor, we were blown-away by the different preshows showing on three screens (to simulate 3D) our superheroe giving instructions to face the Spider-bots. It is immersive and well-thought, especially for kids, likely to be very happy.
As for the ride, we were surprised by the quality of the web shoots, the calibration being very accurate. You just have to aim at the Spider-Bot, make the Spider-Man arm and hand movements (or just stretch your arm out) towards the enemy and you will nail it! Note scoring is available individually or in group, the top scores being displayed at the end of the ride. But it is very sporty and you better have great arms since you will have to launch webs very quickly. You will leave with sore arms but it is really worth it.
As for the 3D, it is rather well made, with few lags on the game actions and the immediate shoot is striking. Note you can change the experience by getting W.E.B. Power Band in the store at the end of the ride. The Power Bands allow - by switchin on the white light button - to change the web launched in the ride, depending on the Power Band you chose. So, by getting the Power Band Iron Man, you can launch repulsive rays instead of webs. You can also get the Power Band Doctor Strange and launch "mystic amplificators" some sorts of magical ropes ending with a mandala, like the MCU wizard could launch.
A non-negligeable bonuts bringing a new level to the experience. Power Bands are rather intuitive and work well (we tried the Doctor Strange one, and we loved it!). But to get this technology gem, you will have to pay €40 for the base and an extra €30 for the Power Band hero. But they are not for the ride only. If you switch the green button on, you can light up the repulsor (Iron Man), or launch a charm with your hands like Doctor Strange.
A ride we highly recommend to family. Shall we book a stay with kids, then, friends?
