The Sérénade Royale is one of the highlights of the summer in the Paris region. This immersive experience takes us back to the court of the Sun King, where we discover the leisure activities of the era. The Chapelle Royale, the Galerie des Glaces, the Grands Appartements du Roi et de la Reine and the Cour Royale unveil historic scenes with baroque dancers, sword fights and even theatrical skits. Saturday evenings from June 8 to September 14, 2024, as well as July 14 and August 15.

It's a must on the Parisian cultural calendar. Every year, with the arrival of fine weather, the Château de Versailles invites us to enjoy an immersive experience that takes us back to the time of the Sun King: La Sérénade Royale. The program includes a historical journey through the Royal Chapel, the Hall of Mirrors, the King's and Queen's Apartments and the Royal Court, each revealing a different period in the life of the court.

The tour takes place on Saturday evenings from June 8 to September 14, 2024, as well as on July 14 and August 15. Take a step back in time, and witness religious chants, theatrical sketches, sword fights and even a sublime demonstration of Baroque dance. Alongside the Sérénade Royale, the Grandes Eaux Musicales and/or the Grandes Eaux Nocturnes, with their magnificent fireworks display, offer a sublime experience for summer evenings.

If you'd like to find out more about the experience, let us tell you what we witnessed during our immersion in the Versailles of the Sun King. The tour begins with a group poetry lesson, then the King's valet invites young and old to a chamber music recital in the Vestibule of the Chapelle Royale.

For 10 minutes, we listen attentively to the musicians, before being invited to go to the Galerie des Glaces: during the stroll, we pass through the King's Chamber and his apartments.

In the magnificent Galerie des Glaces, at twilight, we witness a bizarre playlet, the reception of the Sultana at Court, a spectacle somewhere between dance and burlesque, enough to amuse young and old alike. The magic works, but we must remember to take a few minutes to find a vantage point in the grand gallery, as the tour groups are made up of 100 people and it can be rather difficult to enjoy the show if you stay at the beginning or in the middle of the room.

Finally, the King's valet invites us to watch a passionate fencing match in the Galerie des Batailles, the largest room in the Château, which brings together paintings representing all the great battles that have marked history, from Clovis' victory at Tolbiac onwards.

At the end of the 45-minute tour, children are thrilled to have discovered colorful characters they'll remember forever, while older children are equally enthralled by this immersion in history. In short, if you're in the mood for a great family outing, or a theatrical visit to Versailles, in the company of your soulmate, your friends or on your own, don't miss out on the Sérénade Royale!
