With about 27,000 guests per day (in 2018), both Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studio parks are the first tourism destination in Europe. OPen since mid-July after the first lockdown because of the Covid-19 epidemic, the resort has to close again this Thursday October 29 because of the new lockdown announced by the French President during his address on October 28, 2020.
As for a future reopening, Disneyland Paris said in a press release they open they can reopen for the Holidays, starting December 19 "based on prevailing conditions and government guidance at that time", but the parks will close again from January 4 to February 12, 2021. But following the President's address on Tuesday November 24, the news is like a cold shower: Emmanuel Macron announced theme parks are not to reopen for the Holidays. No reopening then, since it has been officially postponed in a tweet to February 13, 2021 by the Parisian theme park.
Suite aux dernières annonces du gouvernement, Disneyland Paris restera fermé jusqu’au 12 février. Tweet reads: "Following the latest government measures announced, Disneyland Paris will remain closed until 12 February 2021. If you have a booking with us during the period we are closed, please check here for our latest commercial conditions."
If you had booked a stay during the new lockdown, repayment conditions give you two choices: “you can postpone your trip and decide to make a new booking" or "if you decide to cancel your booking, you will receive a refund for the amount already paid for your holiday”.
When it reopend in July, moving on to health measures set up within parks, a health safety plan has been disclosed by our peers at Le Parisien earlier this month, sharing most of guidelines visitors will have to adopt, naming facemasks mandatory from 9 years old within parks, several hundreds of "hand sanitizer" areas, and even limited capacity of the rides to enable social distancing, systematic visual checking of boarding criteria.
Measures that OutsidEars Twitter account - which news are often pretty much trustworthy - has also completed on Wednesday June 17, 2020. So, the two parks opened from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Disneyland Paris, and to 7 p.m. for Walt Disney Studios. As for rides, Fast-Pass and Single Riders queues were closed. Please also note that a threshold as for the guest capacity has been set up 25,000 visitors in the two parks together by day. Those measures are likely to be kept for the reopening of the resot if it takes place in December of February 2021.
Abroad, the parks of the entertainment leader are gradually reopening such as the Shanghai Disneyland that partially reopened on May 11th. Among the health measures implemented, body temperature checked at arrival, mandatory facemasks, limited number of visitors in the park… Same call for Hong Kong Disneyland officially reopening on June 18, closed again on July 15.
As for the American resorts, reopening is also on tracks. Disney World implied - according to our peers at Fox News, that they have handed on Wednesday May 27 a reopening plan to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force. Disney Springs, which is the equivalent of the French Disney Village, but set in Orlando, Florida, has reopened on May 20.
While waiting for the theme park to reopen, let Disney magic come to your home:
Disneyland offers virtual versions of the rides during lockdown
As the entire world is on lockdown because of coronavirus, Disney Parks, Disney parks’ global YouTube channel, offers a little piece of magic by inviting you to discover virtual versions of their main rides. The occasion to “have a ride” without leaving your couch.
Coronavirus: relive Disneyland Paris magic from your home
Despite coronavirus, children and adults can be amazed by Disneyland Paris magic from their home… And for good reason, the Parisian theme park invites them to discover a new and free platform called Disneyland Paris at home providing games, entertainments and other videos to develop creativity. The park also offers the possibility to discover - or rediscover - parades and shows on their social networks: the best way to wait and enjoy the atmosphere of the resort before being able to return to the park.
