On June 3, 2022, as part of the Quartier du Livre Festival, the Place du Panthéon in Paris is to house a huge portrait of the iconic Josephine Baker. The 1,000sqm piece will be made by street-artist Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine.

June 3, 2022, marks Josephine Baker’s birthday. She would have been 116 years old. Both singer, dancer, actor, member of the resistance, the committed artist managed to blow the world away and mark spirits. Today, she is one of the greatest feminist icons, and about fifty years past her death, the world tries to pay her tribute.

As part of the Quartier du Livre festival, the icon’s birthday is celebrated with great pomp with a huge 1,000sqm piece, on the floor of the Place des Grands Hommes, where stands the Pantheon. So, right by the monument housing her sepulcher since November 30, 2021, a huge portrait of Joséphine Baker will adorn the floor on June 3, 2022.

And street-artist Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine will create this XXL piece, like a giant puzzle. The creation of the work will stream live on social networks from June 2 thanks to drones broadcasting pictures. Then, Joséphine Baker’s portrait will be cut into pieces and given to passersby. Each piece will be signed and numbered by the artist. A great deal to bring a piece of art home! And since we are at it, make the most of it to (re)discover the Pantheon and pay tribute to Joséphine Baker!

So, are you going to miss this iconic birthday?
