Set right outside Paris, the Parc Lebaudy is a listed site set on the Île de Puteaux, behind the aquatic center. Covering 2km and shared between the cities of Puteaux and Neuilly-sur-Seine), this park is the biggest one in the city as it covers 33,200sqm of greenery.
For your information, in 1942, Madame Lebaudy – widow to a sugar industrial – donates her lands on the Île de Puteaux to the city. And it was normal the parc was named after her in the 1980’s.
In this verdant space hides a sublime rose garden reminding us rose growing – like vine growing – used to be a major business in the late 18th century and all the 19th century long in Puteaux. Did you know the rose known as “Rosa damascena officinalis” or the perfumers’ rose is also known as “Rose de Puteaux” as it was grown in the city?
We must say this rose, variety of the Damascus rose, was very coveted for its curing properties and smell. It was sold to pharmacists and perfumers. Perfume industry-related factories settled in Puteaux: the Parfums Coty on the Île, the Parfums d’Orsay and Houbigant in rue des Bouvets, the Parfums Bienaimé rue Félix-Piat or Caron rue de la République.
Today, the rose garden counts about 1,600 rose bushes and about 200 species. Therefore, it is a fabulous stroll with great discoveries. With the fountain and stream set in a lovely French formal garden with sculptures, dwell, trimmed trees and rose arches, this bucolic rose garden is amazing. Note the beauty of the rose garden is top notch from May to June for an explosion of colors, but anyway, it is a great location full of greenery all year around.
As for practical information, the park opens for free from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from October 1 to May 31; and then from April 1 to September 30 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
