As part of the Domaine départemental de la Vallée-aux-Loups, the Arboretum – set in Châtenay-Malabry – covers 12.5 hectares. This park offers you a quiet and bucolic break where it feels good to have a walk in the many themed gardens, ponds, hanging bridges, Convolvulaceae green houses or a planted alder alley.
Among the 500 plant species housed in the park, do not miss the Atlas cedar, listed remarkable tree in 2001. At 150 years of age, the latter spreads its branches out on a surface of 700sqm. The vision of these branches with blue-ish thorns softly fall towards the earth or on the surface of the neighboring pond, creating a poetic and moving experience of a rare vegetable beauty.
At some places, sculptures by artist Francis Ballu support the tree, creating a subtle partition between nature and creation. Not far from there, the giant sequoia pierces the sky with its trunk and massive branches. Although it is not as big nor as wide as its peers from western America, its 33 meters have us look up in a (useless) attempt to reach the top.
Here is the perfect place to enjoy wilderness whilst staying close to Paris. And for your information, Île-de-France is packed with gems reminding us how beautiful nature can be. Whether you come for a date, with your family or friends, the Arboretum de la Vallée-aux-Loups will impress you and provide you with a quiet moment filled with great discoveries. So, are you ready to go and conquer this Île-de-France stroll taking us to a verdant setting?
