Speaking of cooling off, the Fête des Loges features a beautiful Allée des Cuisines where 7 restaurants battle it out to treat you. Ice creams and cold drinks battle it out with cotton candy and doughnuts, to be consumed in moderation.

For the record, the Fête des Loges is one of the oldest funfairs in France. Its origins date back to 1652, when popular veneration for Saint Fiacre, a monk of Irish origin, was celebrated every August 30 .

In 1652, Pope Innocent X established the Confrérie Saint-Fiacre in the chapelle des Loges, which quickly became a place of pilgrimage and procession . Towards the end of the 18th century, the event was increasingly transformed into a place of entertainment. In 1893, the town council decided to extend the festival from 3 to 10 days, amalgamating it with the existing Fête de Saint-Louis.

Want to go? By car, take the A13 freeway from Paris. By train? Take the RER A to Gare de Saint-Germain en laye (its western terminus). A cute little train awaits you outside the RER A exit from 1pm to 11:45pm. Don't forget to bring your change - the ride costs 2.5 euros per person, but is an attraction in itself.

A fun, family-friendly funfair in a green setting, it's the perfect way to have some summer fun.
