The Zoo de Vincennes, now called Parc de Zoologique de Paris opens its doors on April 12, 2014 after being closed for several years. The place has been entirely renewed and you will stroll around a spectacular décor and see the zoo’s new animals, book your tickets asap!

After years of hemming and hawing, technical and financial inconveniences, the Parc Zoologique de Paris commonly called the Zoo de Vincennes, is about to rise from its ashes. It is about time because we were starting to wonder if we would ever see again our dear Parisian zoo, since we have been waiting since 2005.

The Zoo de Vincennes has experienced a large-scale transformation in accordance with the Museum’s missions. It is more than just a renovation. The place has been completely transformed both in the landscape approach than in the zoological approach in order to protect and conserve animal species.

The zoo is the only zoo is the world to have been entirely rebuilt and it offers a course through 5 biozones:

  • Patagonia – 16,570 square meters unveiling:
3 zones: The Pampas, the rocky coasts and the Andean forest.
7 species including sea-lions, Humboldt penguins and mountain lions.

  • Sahel-Sudan – 45,215 square meters with:
4 zones: the wooded savannah, the shrublands, the open grasslands and the delta.
44 species including West African giraffes, white rhinoceroses, ostriches, Guinean baboons, scimitar-horned oryxes, greater kudus, addaxes, Marabou storks.

  • Europe – 10,800 square meters with:
4 zones: the conifer forest and within the vivarium: marshlands, scrublands and mountainous terrains.
28 species including Iberian wolves, Eurasian lynxes, raptors, cinereous vultures and several amphibians…

  • Guyana – 12,530 square meters with:
3 zones: the tropical forest, the creek and the river
67 species including small primates, dwarf caimans, manatees, hyacinth macaws, anacondas…

  • Madagascar – 9,655 square meters with:
2 zones: the tropical rainforest and the tropical dry forest.
30 species including lemurs, fossas, radiated tortoises and grey-headed lovebirds.

The whole park is revealed on 14.5 hectares and a 4-km itinerary. The tour has been thought up like a long stroll, the visitor discovers over 1000 animals in a “reconstituted” natural environment and is then immersed in the same environment.

In this legendary place, the Muséeum national d’Histoire naturelle invents the 21st century zoo. The new zoo is open to all of you and provides a high-performance equipment enabling it to play an essential role in being a walking space for everyone, a place of knowledge sharing, a place of pedagogic innovation, as well as a scientific research center.

The new Zoo de Vincennes offers you:

A place of learning:
The Parc Zoologique plays an instructive role, raising awareness about the environment, the biology of species and the conservation of biodiversity. A 4-km visit tour invites visitors to discover 5 biozones: Sahel-Sudan, Patagonia, Europe, Amazon-Guyana, Madagascar and to observe animals in their environment so that they can understand their behavior better. Architectural equipment thanks to their unobtrusiveness and the reconstitution of the floras from the different biozones contribute to offer an immersive visit.

Animal welfare:
Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes and invertebrates: about 180 species and over one thousand animals allow a trip to the heart of the animal biodiversity. To choose the species represented at the zoo, several criteria have been determining: promoting mixed ecosystems, animal welfare concerns and fulfilment of the missions the zoo goes along with.

Spectacular landscapes:
The zoo’s Great Rock remains. The park’s legendary feature that has been standing since 1934 (65-meter high, 354 steps), entirely restored in 1997 is highlighted and now houses a vivarium presenting the European fauna. Two new structures are now major poles of attraction: the Great Aviary housing many bird species including a hundred free-flying flamingos and the Great Glasshouse. Under a glass roof (100-m long, 40-m wide and 16-m high), a humid and tropical climate has been recreated to host an extraordinary fauna: small insects, amphibians, monkeys, manatees, birds…

The Zoo de Vincennes is a shared story and the will to make everybody take part in preserving threatened species and animal welfare. In addition to the collaboration to numerous international species conservation programs, the Muséeum has launched in November an animal sponsorship program.

So, it is now possible to choose via the set-up website an animal and contribute to its conservation and welfare after donating at least €15. According to the amount of the donation, you can be a sponsor or a patron, you can also benefit from an entry, a yearly-subscription or exclusive invitations. You should also know that if you live in France and pay taxes, you can have it tax-deductible, so, what are you waiting for?

As a memo, tickets for the park opening are already on sale. So, if you are as looking forward to discovering the new structures and the numerous spaces and animals living in the park as we are, it is now time to book your entry!

In order to solve parking issues around the new Paris zoological garden and to prevent pollution because of wild car park, several competing companies providing parking lots have agreed to work together to offer visitors discount parking tickets. The only condition is to book your spot on the internet.

For your comfort, ParkingsdeParis.com offers you several parking solutions: the Garage Poniatowski located on Boulevard Poniatowski, about a 10-minute walk from the zoological garden entrance. This parking lot useful by its location, is likely to be full quickly and its access quickly crowded.

Avoid traffic jam by using intermodal connections: leave your car at the Grands Moulins parking lot or at the Tolbiac-Bibliothèque parking lot, walk 500-m on the Avenue de France to reach the tram station “Avenue de France”. Use the tramway T3a towards “Porte de Vincennes”, after 3 stops you will reach “Porte Dorée”: you will then have to walk for 3 minutes to reach the zoo.

Discover two other parking lots: Vincent Auriol-Bibliothèque and Quai d’Austerlitz located a few minutes away from the Quai de la Gare station: use the metro 6 (towards Nation) and get off at Daumesnil and get on the metro 8 (towards Créteil) to get off at Porte Dorée.

From the other side of the Seine river, you will find the Bercy parking lot, located just a 5-minute walk from the Bercy metro: use the metro 6 (towards Nation) until Daumesnil and the metro line 8 (towards Créteil) until Porte Dorée.

You can also use the Erard-2 parking lot or the Garage du Faubourg that are next to the Reuilly-Diderot metro and bus stop: use the metro line 8 towards Créteil and get off at Porte Dorée (5 minutes away from the Zoo entry) or the Bus 46 towards Château de Vincennes and get off at Parc Zoologique.

As a memo, you will have to pay between €8 for 4 hours and €24 for 24 hours.
