If there is any place to celebrate the Chinese New Year, it sure is the 13th arrondissement of Paris, famous for being the Chinatown of the capital. As for every year, thousands of people (around 200,000 people) from everywhere around the world will gather in the streets of the 13th arrondissement for the parade.
This year, the Chinese New Year falls on February 16, 2018. The Year of the rooster is off, The Year of the Dog is on for a year that, we hope, will be full of unexpected developments. Organised by the 13th arrondissement city hall, the festivities will spotlight the evolution of the Chinese traditions and culture.
The Chinese New Year is a way for many people to discover the Chinese culture, its traditions and folklores, and it has progressively forged itself a spot in the Parisian calendar. These celebrations are a way to polish our knowledge of the 13th arrondissement cultures: Vietnamese, Cambodian, Tibetan, Chinese provinces…. and even some border countries: India, Iran, Mongolia.
Considered as the neighborhood’s major event, for it's the most important event in France in the matter, the 13th arrondissement Chinese New Year's Parade will be held on Sunday February 25, 2018.
The 13th arrondissement' Chinese New Year's Parade:
The parade will begin around 1p.m. and will most likely follow this path:
Dragon dances, lion dances, costume parade, Chinese traditional et folkloric dances with firecracker sounds. A rendez-vous not to be missed.
From February 19 to March 3, 2018, alongside this event, the 13th arrondissement city hall organizes a cultural programme, provided with a rich schedule that aims at working for the sharing of the multiple cultures that make the richness and the diversity of the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
Please note that other parades will also be held throughout the French capital: Place de la République and Belleville.
