Fountains Shows of Versailles 2018

For over 350, the Palace of Versailles and its royal gardens have been delighting visitors’ eyes. From March 27 to October 30, 2018, come and discover a new season of strolls around the estate thickets and fountains. The Musical Fountains shows, the Musical Gardens, the Night Fountains Show and the Royal Serenade expect you. In the weekend, at the pace of music, 55 fountains scattered across the 850-acre Versailles gardens offer an incredible show inherited from the Sun King!

For over 350 years, the Fountains Shows of Versailles have been an irresistible event for families and tourists in the Versailles estate: in the day, the Fountains Shows brighten up fountains in a royal atmosphere, and in the evening, the Night Fountains Shows offer a majestic show mixing fireworks and aquatic effects.

Les Grandes Eaux Musicales 2018 au Château de Versailles

It’s a true show for the 10,000 daily visitors. From the Grand Perspective to Neptune Fountain, without forgetting the Ballroom and its circular cascade, all the greatest pools brighten up in the summer, spreading out again all the pomp of the Versailles Estate. On sunny days, the Garden offers one of the most beautiful shows, thought up by Louis XIV and designed by the best Italian hydrant men, the Francine, in association with Le Nôtre!

It’s quite impressive to this this water system designed in 1660, in order to support the Sun King’s power: in four years, the world’s most beautiful gardens were carried out thanks to the hardest works for the era. Digging the Grand Canal, building huge water tanks, setting up a wide network of closed piping covering 35 km, leading to 600 water displays!

Some thickets, usually closed to the public, open their doors and live again with the setting of music atmospheres. We can listen to jewels from the French baroque repertoire, from its origin, back to Louis XIII’s era, to the mid-18th century, from Lully to Charpentier without forgetting Rameau, in the wonderful French formal gardens.

Music program:

This season, a soundtrack featuring work extracts selected in the Versailles-Alpha collection, conducted by the greatest conductors of baroque music accompanies the Fountains Shows of Versailles. The album of the Fountains Shows of Versailles is available on Outhere-music.com.

Another event is the Musical Gardens offering you the possibility to roam around the gardens at the pace of baroque music. At the corner of a flowerbed, perfectly straight box trees or in an exceptionally open grove on the occasion of the Musical Gardens, you will walk by statues representing Apollo, Proserpine, Marmousets and other masterpieces – sometimes hidden. Admire the topiaries hand-trimmed by the art gardeners of the Palace of Versailles, in line with a know-how passed down from generation to generation.

Like the climax of your stroll, the Water Theatre Grove recently inaugurated will offer you its most beautiful sculpture-fountains in action and the Mirror Pool, a water game show using modern technics.

Every summer Saturday, after the Fountains Shows or before the Night Fountains Shows, discover or rediscover Château de Versailles Grand Apartments in privileged conditions, with baroque musicians and dancers. The Royal Serenade in the Hall of Mirrors is a forty-minute visit of the Grands Apartments at the time when sun is setting down, from the Royal Chapel’s Vestibule to the Hercules’s Salon through the King’s Bedroom to the Hall of Mirrors, in the company of the Musiciens des Folies Françoises and the dancers of the Compagnie de Danse l’Eventail.
