Carnaval Tropical returns to Paris for its 22nd edition. Rendezvous at the beginning of July (date to be confirmed), to attend this festive event that takes over the most beautiful avenue in the world. Hundreds of dancers and some thirty carnival groups parade down the Champs-Elysées avenue. For the occasion, several associations from Paris and the Île-de-France region are parading their traditional costumes and dances, proudly representing cultures from the four corners of the globe.
The program has yet to be announced, but here's what we had last year:
The parade starts at around 1 p.m. from the Rue Franklin Roosevelt crossroads. Last year's theme was "The Colours of the World". This year, the Olympic Games will certainly be in the spotlight. To open the ball, a float presented the King and Queen who had been elected during the competition organized by the Fédération du Carnaval Tropical de Paris et de l'Île-de-France.
Then came the various groups competing in their respective categories: dance, music, costumes and choreography. The show was on on the most beautiful avenue in the world! From the carnival village at the bottom of the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, near the Théâtre du Rond-Point, you can watch the groups taking part in the festive parade every year.
The Carnaval Tropical de Paris is undoubtedly the capital's biggest carnival. Every year, it attracts some 200,000 spectators for a lively parade. Initiated more than 20 years ago, this carnival was originally organized by West Indians in mainland France, but today sees many different origins come together, including China, Brazil, England, Holland and Colombia.
For the record, what is Carnaval Tropical? It's the gathering of hundreds of colorful costumes from all over the world, music ranging from the traditional to the exotic, and choreography imagined for the occasion that gives free rein to the groups present to blend history and creativity. There's also a competition to reward the best performances in front of the grandstand at the end of the show.
