On December 16 and 17, 2017, Provins invites you to come along and discover the magic of Christmas of yesteryear. On the menu: Christmas Market, living nativity scenes, shows, Santa Claus’ steam train and many other uncommon or traditional animations.

In the weekend, from December 16 to 17, 2017, for the 8th year in a row, the medieval city of Provins welcomes families to celebrate Christmas in an enchanting décor, just an hour from Paris.

Medieval Christmas Market
The Gardes-Foires de Champagne association organizes a medieval Christmas Market with troubadours, jugglers and fire-eater with an auction sale of medieval equipment and traditional bal.
Location: Place du Châtel
Opening hours: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. / Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Rate: free admission

Auction sale of medieval equipment
This the occasion to find some goldies. Armors, swords, jewels, camping equipment,… You’re likely to find everything to make amateurs and collectors happy.
Location: Courtyard of the Hotel de Savigny
Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Medieval Bal
Learn the steps of medieval dances with the Danserons de Thibaud de Champagne. Be ready to know everything about French medieval dances.
Location: School playground, rue du palais
Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m.

Fire show
The companies Les R’mon Temps, the Tritons Ripailleurs, the Bateleurs de Sire Jean and Rhésus Positif offer you varied fire shows.
Location: Place du Châtel and then school playground, rue du Palais
Opening Hours: Saturday from 8:30 p.m., finale at 9:30 p.m. in the school playground and Sunday from 5 p.m., finale at 6 p.m. in the school playground.

Saint Francis living nativity scene
This show returns on Saint Francis of Assisi who, as a young child, used to accompany his father, a rich Italian draper, to the Fairs in Provins and he was the first to recreate a nativity scene in 1223 near Greccio. Not less than 50 actors, an ox, a donkey, a wolf, sheep, a falcon, shepherd dogs, mages’ camels and Christmas carols, don’t miss this historical staging.

Guided tour: “Celebration in the Middle Age”
Discover how catholic celebrations and pagan rites used to fill men and women’s daily lives in the Middle Age.
Location: departing from the Tourist Office

Duration: about 1h30

“The Wedding of Blanche de Castille” banquet
This unique show stages the banquet of the prestigious wedding of M. Le Comte’s daughter to the Duke of Bretagne. Come and discover the seat you could have had and what you could have eaten. A hot drink is served at the end of the show.

Natural ice skating ring of 420m²
Put on your skating shoes, come and skate on the ice skating rink set in the open air in front of the Centre Culturel et Sportif Saint Ayoul.
Opening hours: every day from December 15 to January 7, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Four late-night openings: on December 16, 23 and 30 and January 6 until 9:30 p.m.

Gourmet Christmas Market and Christmas entertainment down town
The gourmet market is THE place to be to enjoy champagne, sweets, crepes, foie gras and other sweet treats... The Jules Verne carousel and Santa Claus’ chalet are here for children’s greatest happiness. Chocolate makers, jugglers and street circus roam the streets of the city center.

Told visits “Legends and Believes”
Enter the enchanting universe of the Middle-Age with its stories of witches, fairies, ogres and dragons… Between truths and lies, discover the legends and believes of our ancestors thanks to a strange character… the wolf leader. He’ll walk you out, only if you succeed in the 7 steps! Above all, keep you eyes on him or you’ll haunt the place!

Santa Claus’ steam train
Let yourself aboard Santa Claus’ steam locomotive followed by his historical wagon (1910-1930) for a true travel through time! An excellent opportunity to discover the train rotunda housing a wide collection of steam locomotives, cars and wagons telling a century of railway.
Opening hours: only on Saturday December 10
The steam train will take travelers from the railways station of the Musée de Longueville (Rotonde des Locomotives, 3 rue Louis-Platriez), to the railways of Provins or Villiers-Saint-Geroges, round trip.
Rates: from €7 to €30, according to age and distance. Reduced rate for children from 6 to 11 years old. Free for the youngest, under conditions.

Provins Rose Garden
It’s by the fire of the Rose Garden that you’ll be welcomed from Friday afternoon. Visitors or regulars of this remarkable place can warm up and enjoy hot drinks, pick the first Christmas roses as well as Holidays presents.

Old wooden toys exhibition
Come along to discover the toys that make children dream from the 1900’s to the 1950’s in the 18 windows of the exhibition. Then, discover the world of the little girls, the musical toys, the toys for the open air…
