On December 16 and 17, 2017, Provins invites you to come along and discover the magic of Christmas of yesteryear. On the menu: Christmas Market, living nativity scenes, shows, Santa Claus’ steam train and many other uncommon or traditional animations.
In the weekend, from December 16 to 17, 2017, for the 8th year in a row, the medieval city of Provins welcomes families to celebrate Christmas in an enchanting décor, just an hour from Paris.
Medieval Christmas Market
The Gardes-Foires de Champagne association organizes a medieval Christmas Market with troubadours, jugglers and fire-eater with an auction sale of medieval equipment and traditional bal.
Location: Place du Châtel
Opening hours: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. / Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Auction sale of medieval equipment
This the occasion to find some goldies. Armors, swords, jewels, camping equipment,… You’re likely to find everything to make amateurs and collectors happy.

Learn the steps of medieval dances with the Danserons de Thibaud de Champagne. Be ready to know everything about French medieval dances.

Saint Francis living nativity scene
This show returns on Saint Francis of Assisi who, as a young child, used to accompany his father, a rich Italian draper, to the Fairs in Provins and he was the first to recreate a nativity scene in 1223 near Greccio. Not less than 50 actors, an ox, a donkey, a wolf, sheep, a falcon, shepherd dogs, mages’ camels and Christmas carols, don’t miss this historical staging.

“The Wedding of Blanche de Castille” banquet
This unique show stages the banquet of the prestigious wedding of M. Le Comte’s daughter to the Duke of Bretagne. Come and discover the seat you could have had and what you could have eaten. A hot drink is served at the end of the show.

Gourmet Christmas Market and Christmas entertainment down town
The gourmet market is THE place to be to enjoy champagne, sweets, crepes, foie gras and other sweet treats... The Jules Verne carousel and Santa Claus’ chalet are here for children’s greatest happiness. Chocolate makers, jugglers and street circus roam the streets of the city center.

Santa Claus’ steam train
Let yourself aboard Santa Claus’ steam locomotive followed by his historical wagon (1910-1930) for a true travel through time! An excellent opportunity to discover the train rotunda housing a wide collection of steam locomotives, cars and wagons telling a century of railway.
Opening hours: only on Saturday December 10
The steam train will take travelers from the railways station of the Musée de Longueville (Rotonde des Locomotives, 3 rue Louis-Platriez), to the railways of Provins or Villiers-Saint-Geroges, round trip.
Rates: from €7 to €30, according to age and distance. Reduced rate for children from 6 to 11 years old. Free for the youngest, under conditions.
