Art and fabric lovers are expected at the Palais de Tokyo to discover an exhibition around works by German artist Ulla von Brandenburg and named Le Milieu est Bleu [The Middle is Blue] and running from February 21, 2020 to January 3, 2021. A retrospective held at the same time as the “Our World is burning” season. The exhibition is closed until further notice.
For this exhibition, Ulla von Brandenburg has imagined “a total, evolving project, inspired from the theatre, as well as its imaginary and conventions” around the notion of ritual as the “possibility to explore the relationships between individuals and groups, and to create or not to create something in common”. The idea? Taking part in “an immersive and renewed experience of the themes, forms and motifs that feed into her work: movement, the stage, colors, music, textiles...”
Performances, sculptures and other installations answer each other and tangle together in an “open narration, between authenticity and artifice, the natural world and human activities, the interior and the exterior, fiction and reality.” And fabric, omnipresent, allowing the artist to hide this huge white cube that the museum is. Fabrics enabling us to travel from one universe to another, “in a space where curtains have been hung” where “the separation between the interior and the exterior, or between different worlds, becomes blurred”. A new world we can visit thanks to this colorful exhibition… Let’s go, friends, shall we?
