The Musée du Quai Branly expands its exhibition space to present 36 works from the collection of Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière from May 19, 2021. Valued at 52 million euros, Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière's gift is the largest donation of African and Oceanic art since 1945.

A major new addition to the Musée du Quai Branly: 36 works from Africa and Oceania will join the museum's collections, along with a new space designed by Jean Nouvel for viewing the works up close, and in an "intimate" setting, from May 19, 2021. The works were donated to France by businessman and collector Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière in 2018.

They include the Songye Nkishi Protector Statue (Kalebwe du Centre, Democratic Republic of Congo, 19th century), the Sénoufo Seated Maternity (Côte d'Ivoire, northern region, pre-1952) and the Baoulé Seated Male Statue (Côte d'Ivoire, 19th century). A twentieth-century Malagan mask from Tabar Island, New Ireland, and a nineteenth-century anthropomorphic mask honoring the Dan people of west-central Côte d'Ivoire are also part of the collection. Most of these works were seen as part of theEclectiqueexhibition in 2016-2017.

According to the museum's press release, Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière 's donation is intended to "become the point of articulation for historical, artistic and anthropological reflections, notably through a series of exhibitions [...] and will be attached to an ambitious scientific and cultural project". These will often be featured in events such as theBarthélemy Toguo exhibition due to open in 2021.
