Art takes over the streets of Paris and we love it! Julien Marinetti is indulging us to another open-air and free exhibition. At the corner of the Champs-Elysées, as Yayoi Kusama catches all eyes on the Louis Vuitton façade, the contemporary artist displays his gigantic sculptures until March 16, 2023. All along the Avenue George V, a dozen sculptures of animals await.
Painter, sculptor, engraver, designer, Julien Marinetti is an artist who met success by merging sculpture with painting, which he calls “syncretism of art”. His terracotta sculptures such as bulldogs, pandas, penguins and skulls are then turned into bronze. For 15 years, his main piece, Doggy John, has become an icon and is displayed in prestigious cities over the world such as Paris, New York, London and Singapore, for viewers’ greatest joy.
Julien and his Juliogoths, here is the name of the open-air exhibition taking us from the Champs-Elysées to the Pont de l’Alma. On each side of Avenue George V, cats, dogs, panda, hippopotamuses and colorful beast are displayed.
Original and fun, these sculptures are rocking the ritzy neighborhood. As a matter of fact, the animals and characters pose in front of Vuitton and Hermès stores, Prince de Galles and George V hotels.
And this is not a first for the avenue that regularly sees contemporary pieces displayed. After GV Monumental back to 2019, that featured pieces by 4 contemporary artists, then Manolo Valdes in 2020, and Richard Orlinski last winter, it is now Julien Marinetti’s turn to enchant us with his monumental sculptures.
And this is not the first time either that we see Marinetti’s work in the streets of Paris since in 2021, the Totems à ciel ouvert exhibition already featured some of his pieces between Saint-Honoré and Concorde.
So, how about treating ourselves to a free and open-air exhibition?
