Fancy some Mediterranean sunshine without leaving the capital? Head for Chez Zena, a Lebanese restaurant in the 18th arrondissement, between the Anvers and Pigalle metro stations, to discover its tasty, home-style cuisine! From the moment you enter, the many intoxicating flavors take you straight to Lebanon.
We sit down at the table and have a chat with the managers. They explain that everything here is homemade, just like at home. The menu is packed with specialties: hummus, moutabal, baba ghanouj, labné, samboussek, falafel, kebbé... The best of Lebanese cuisine at your fingertips! You can have lunch or dinner on site, but you can also take away dishes and shawarmas or have them delivered, as you wish.
A cuisine we were able to try out. Starters and main courses include an assortment of mezze: falafel, kebbé, rakakat with cheese, fettouch (salad with baby greens and pomegranate seeds), baba ghanouj (eggplant caviar with pomegranate seeds) and hummus, among others. Simple, no-fuss dishes, as full of sunshine as they are full of love. We love it! For dessert, an assortment of baklawas accompanied by mahalabia, a kind of flan with sugar syrup (scented with rose) and pistachios. The perfect way to end a meal on a high note.
And, above all, a promise: come back and try the shawarmas again! All in all, a fine, simple address if you happen to be in the neighborhood, just outside the Anvers metro station. Let's travel to Lebanon for lunch, friends?
