From October 22 to November 3, 2024, the beautiful Abbaye de Royaumont, a monastery founded by Saint-Louis, will be decked out in terrifying decorations and a misty atmosphere during the All Saints' Day vacation, for Halloween. A former hospital during the Great War, the abbey is teeming with ghosts just waiting to come out and haunt you during storytelling or theatrical tours!
Every day except Monday, at 3.30pm, storytellers Clément Turin and Célia Chambaud will take young and old on a stroll through the abbey grounds, to discover the site through scary stories and anecdotes. Who was the cunning child who defied the ogre living in the abbey ruins? How long has the witch of the cave been living at Royaumont? What happened to the former abbot who went to the cemetery every evening?
On the evening of October 31, the Abbey will be transformed to offer visitors a theatrical stroll through the heart of the Middle Ages, led by three ghosts. This phantasmagorical journey will end in the monks' refectory, where an organist will play a number of special tunes!
And to fill the belly after a few scares, enjoy a banquet with a squash and chestnut crumble on the menu, matched with a lemon honey piquillo coulis and olive oil cress, followed by a ballotine of salmon with spinach, served with squid ink beurre blanc and garlic baby vegetables, before the bloody tiramisu!
