To mark the 42nd Journées du Patrimoine, the Odéon-théâtre de l'Europe is opening its doors for guided backstage tours on Saturday September 20 only. It's an exceptional opportunity to get up close and personal with this legendary venue.

Since 1984, the European Heritage Days have been a key event in the French and European cultural calendar. Like every year, this September weekend invites you to discover cultural sites of all kinds: theaters, museums, cinemas, monuments and much more. The advantage: it's completely free! So bring the whole family! What's more, you can visit places that are usually closed to the public. This year, the 42nd edition will take place on Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21, 2025.

Once again this year, theOdéon - théâtre de l'Europe will be taking part. Founded in 1782, this theater has had many names in its history. The most important thing to remember is that it is one of France's five national theaters. It's an Italian-style venue steeped in almost 250 years of history. Some of the greatest plays in French literature have been staged here: The Marriage of Figaro, Ruy Blas, The Merchant of Venice, Rhinoceros and many others.

Its stage has welcomed great actors, and its architecture makes it a historic monument. This Italian-style theater boasts a neo-classical façade. Take a behind-the-scenes look at this not-to-be-missed cultural site in Paris, thanks to the Heritage Days tours.

    The Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe was built in 1782. It was the first monumental Parisian building devoted entirely to the art of theater. The Italian-style auditorium, the largest in Paris at the time, could accommodate 1,913 people; today it seats 800. The Odéon was listed as a historic monument on October 7, 1947.
