Aurore Evain is artistic director of the La Subversive company. Her research and creations are devoted to highlighting our heritage. She is co-editor of anAnthology of Women's Theatre of the Ancien Régime, and initiated the first Journées du Matrimoine in France. Her productions of Le Favori by Mme de Villedieu, La Folle Enchère by Mme Ulrich, and the tragedy Laodamie by Catherine Bernard are the first revivals of these plays created in the 17th century at the Comédie-Française. In 2024, she won the Prix Pandore and the Prix INfluencia for her essay Mary Sidney alias Shakespeare, published by Talents Hauts. With this lecture, Aurore Evain contributes to shedding light on theatrical heritage through the case of the first actresses and authors of European theater. By exploring the history of women theatre-makers, she evokes the mechanisms that led to their erasure, notably through language, as well as the contemporary issues involved in rediscovering their works. At the end of this journey through time, she returns to the literary mystery surrounding the identity of the author presumably hidden under the name "Shakespeare". The lecture will be followed by a book signing of Aurore Evain's latest book, Mary Sidney alias Shakespeare, with the Chimère bookshop.
