The Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) take place every year on the third weekend in September. This cultural event, which is taking place all over Europe, invites us to take advantage of a wide range of activities designed to help us discover our heritage in a new light. Paris and the whole of the Île-de-France region take part, each year unveiling a fascinating program of visits, often free of charge, and events for young and old alike.
Museums, monuments, castles, churches, major institutions, ministries: every year, many places take part in the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days), offering us the chance to take part in original programming. So it's hard not to find something to suit your passions!
If you're in the Val-de-Marne region or want to get to know the area better, we'll take you on a trip to Fontenay-sous-Bois, to find out what's on. You can even take the opportunity to visit Vincennes, Saint-Maur-des-Fossés or other nearby towns for a day out!
Heritage Days 2025 at the Fonderie, a center for artistic creation in Fontenay-sous-Bois
There are places you don't visit: you live in them, walk through them or discover them. Places that pulsate with a memory greater than the sum of their walls. Places that don't just exist: they persist. Here, aluminum melted under the flames, shaped by the working hand. The Foundry was a matrix, and a matrix it remains. In this industrial space reclaimed by creation, the raw material has become the imagination.
For the European Heritage Days, this is the Foundry as seen by its artists. A collective portrait and a polyphony of existences in resistance. Each of us here, through line, color, wood, light or press, deposits a fragment of ourselves. Together, they create a fragile yet powerful territory, a poetic enclave in a world that concretes the soul. In the face of the threats hanging over this site - as over so many other bastions of living creation - this exhibition is as much a gentle cry as a silent manifesto. It says: we are, we live, we shape, we transmit. It also says: an art space is not a luxury, but a necessity. It says: here is a space for work, friction and sharing.
What you'll see here are artists looking at a place that carries them, nurtures them, shelters them, inhabits them. Artists activating a vigorously living memory. For the Fonderie is not a sanctuary: it's a forge. A place in constant transformation, vibrating with the fertile chaos that gives birth to works and links, vibrations and dissonances. Each corner is a workshop, each workshop a world, each world a beat in the great living body it constitutes. The alchemy here is no longer industrial but human, ardent and fertile. By its very existence, this place defies the logic of yield. It chooses the living over the useful, momentum over numbers, beauty over obliteration.
As you browse through this exhibition, may you feel the heartbeat of this place. And perhaps, in you too, something will melt.
