Historic monument with hidden treasures, the Château de Vincennes is highlighted all along European Heritage Days. And even though it is set just outside Paris, many people forget about this fortress that is a vestige with a few records of its own. It is the biggest fortified castle in France still existing and its dungeon is 52-m high and one of the highest ones in Europe. It is in this very dungeon that were imprisoned Voltaire and the Marquis de Sade.
