Since early February 2019, the Village Royal neighborhood in Paris is enhanced by some 800 colorful umbrellas. Behind this temporary installation called “Umbrella Sky Project”, we have Portuguese artist Patricia Cunha.

If many tourists have been storming the rue Crémieux to show this famous and colorful Parisian street on social networks, we’ve found the new Instagrammable place in the French capital!

To do so, you’ll have to make your way to the Village Royal nestled in the 8th arrondissement. It’s here in one of the streets hidden behind the Madeleine church that Patricia Cunha set up her world-famous project called “Umbrella Sky Project”.

Picture it: 800 multicolor umbrellas hanging on cables, above your head. This is what to expect all spring long with this temporary and very colorful installation.

Behind this project we have Patricia Cunha. Since 2011, the Portuguese artist has been enhancing neighborhoods all over the world by setting up many colorful umbrellas: blue, yellow, orange… After Arles, Carcassonne, Toulouse and even Béziers in France, as well as Tokyo, Seoul, Saint-Petersburg and more recently Pensacola, it’s Paris’ turn to welcome these legendary umbrellas originally coming from the city of Águeda in south Porto. This is where a group led by Patricia Cunha has been hanging hundreds of colorful umbrellas for the very first time.
