First busy weekend in July on the roads: Île-de-France is on red alert this Friday, July 4, 2025, warns Bison Futé. Major difficulties are expected on the A6, A10 and A13 freeways from late morning onwards. To avoid traffic jams, it is advisable to leave the region early in the morning or late at night, avoiding the busiest routes.

Roads in the Île-de-France region will be saturated this summer vacation weekend , from July 4 to 6, 2025. We take a look at Bison Futé 's announcements and recommendations to avoid getting stuck at the start of the summer vacations.

Île-de-France, the hub of summer departures, will be particularly affected by the first major vacation departures this Friday, July 4, 2025. Traffic is expected to be very heavy from mid-day onwards, particularly at toll booths on the A10 and A6 freeways, the main routes to the south-west and south-east of the country. Bison Futé classifies the day as red in the direction of departures for the Paris region, with very disrupted traffic expected until the evening.

What are the best times and routes to avoid?

To limit traffic jams, we strongly recommend leaving the Paris region before 10am or after 11pm. The first traffic jams are expected to appear in the late morning, particularly on :

  • the A10 at the Saint-Arnoult barrier,

  • the A6 towards Lyon,

  • the A86 and A6b, on the outskirts of Paris,

  • the A13 towards Normandy.

Saturday July 5 will be the most difficult day of the weekend, with traffic classified as red nationwide. In Paris, slowdowns are expected from dawn onwards on theA10 and A6, with persistent congestion until mid-afternoon. Here again, it's best to get on the road before 5am or after 5pm.

What are the alternatives for departing Parisians?

Several strategies can be adopted to avoid saturated main roads:

  • Favoring late-night or very early-morning departures, starting at dawn or after midnight on Friday July 4.

  • Use secondary routes to bypass critical areas, such as national roads running parallel to main freeways.

  • Postpone departure until Sunday July 6, a day classified as green throughout the country, with the exception of a few regions such as Normandy and Centre-Val de Loire.

And for those returning to the Paris region?

Good news for the return journey: traffic will be much less difficult, with traffic generally flowing smoothly except around the Mediterranean. However, there are a few roads to avoid between 10am and 5pm on Saturday, in particular :

  • the A7 between Marseille and Orange,

  • the A9 between Spain and Orange,

  • the A8 between Le Luc and La Fare-les-Oliviers.

What other things to watch out for this weekend?

There will be an exceptional closure of the A7 motorway in Marseille, between Les Pennes-Mirabeau and Gare Saint-Charles, from midnight on Friday July 4 to midday on Sunday July 6, due to roadworks.

Finally, disruptions are also expected on the approach to the Mont-Blanc tunnel, particularly on Sunday between 10am and 7pm.
