The Chinese, Vietnamese (Tet Festival), Korean, Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian and Filipino New Year, more commonly known as the Lunar New Year, falls this year on Wednesday January 29, 2025. This year, we'll be celebrating the Year of the Snake. Looking for a good way to mark the occasion? Discover the best ideas for celebrating the Year of the Wooden Dragon, with parades, entertainment and good restaurants.

The Lunar New Year in Paris, which this year takes place on Wednesday January 29, 2025, promises grandiose parades with dragons and Bengal fires. But note that the festivities don't necessarily take place on that day. In China, celebrations last 16 days, from New Year's Eve to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the lunar calendar. In the Ile-de-France region, parades and events can therefore be spread over several weeks.

Lunar New Year, commonly known as Chinese New Year and also known as the Spring Festival or Tet Festival, is one of the most important celebrations of the year in China and other Asian countries such as Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

This festival marks the beginning of the year according to the lunar calendar, and is celebrated with great pomp, parades, fireworks, feasting, dancing and music!

In Paris, many Lunar New Year celebrations are organized in neighborhoods with a strong Asian community, such as the 13th arrondissement, the 3rd arrondissement and Belleville, but also in other districts, such as République and Faubourg Saint-Honoré, which also organize fine parades. In the Ile-de-France region, and particularly in Seine-Saint-Denis, other festive parades and large gatherings are on the menu of festivities.

Indeed, in addition to lively parades, town halls and associations also organize discoveries of Chinese and Asian cultures through workshops, dance ormartial arts demonstrations, lively exotic markets, conferences and exhibitions.

Lunar New Year festivities in Paris are, in every case, an opportunity to discover new cultures and celebrate the city's diversity. They are also a good excuse to sample Asian cuisine. Restaurants are offering special menus to mark the New Year, and it's also a good time to indulge in noodles, ravioli and bao!

From the end of January, take to the streets of Paris and the capital's Asian restaurants and boutiques to discover what this Lunar New Year 2025 has in store for you!

Please note that this guide is constantly being updated, and new events/programs are added regularly. Stay tuned!
