Every year, the Nuit des Musées (Night of the Museums ) attracts enthusiasts and the curious with a program of exceptional nocturnes, free visits and unusual events for all ages. In Paris and the Paris region, museums, châteaux, monuments and institutions all play their part in this cultural event synonymous with good deals.
The Cité des Sciences et de l' Industrie is a magical temple where children can explore and understand the world, through immersive exhibitions and spaces that let us discover the beauties of the world. Nature, technology, space, the marine world, energy, biology... All these fascinating fields are brought to children's level, opening up a world of extraordinary discoveries.
All these collections can be seen free of charge during the 20th edition of Nuit des Musées, this Saturday, May 18, 2024. For one magical evening, the museum opens its doors to us, allowing us to freely visit the Cité des Sciences' permanent and temporary exhibitions. A number of activities are also on offer for families and curious visitors.

How do the vocal cords work? What is the inner and outer ear? Listen to the diversity of the world of sound... and silence...
Sound propagates through air, water or solids in the form of waves. To "capture" the phenomena involved, the exhibition invites your students to identify sounds, experiment with new technologies and play with musical sound.
Do you really know how to listen? Experience absolute silence to learn how to better listen to the sound environment. Explore a landscape with your ears. Sound as you've never seen it before.
How can we continue to live on Earth? To achieve this, we have no choice but to transform our way of life and our society. So, how can we go about it?
An exhibition divided into three visit sequences:
> Decarbonizing: discovering the challenges of reducing greenhouse gas emissions
> Anticipating: learning about and understanding the causes and effects of global warming
> Taking action: getting involved individually and collectively
La Cité des enfants is made up of two separate exhibitions on either side of the entrance hall, one for children aged 2 to 7, the other for children aged 5 to 12. Clearly delineated, these exhibits offer different challenges and themes of discovery for each age group.
Younger children like to act on things. The Cité des enfants 2-7 offers them five themes entirely dedicated to testing their abilities, discovering themselves, acting on things and interacting with other children: Je sais faire, Je me découvre, Je me repère, J'expérimente and Tous ensemble.
From the age of 5-7, children become autonomous and develop a certain capacity to extract themselves from their immediate environment in order to reason and try to explain the world around them.
This physical and cognitive maturity is the keystone of the Cité des enfants 5-12 ans. The introduction to a scientific and technical culture now takes on its full meaning.
Behind the glass of the aquarium nestles a community of plants and animals.
From the shores of the Mediterranean: Corsica, Sardinia, Tunisia, Greece... several species of fish, crustaceans and molluscs from the Mediterranean coastline live side by side.
The new theme deployed in the e-LAB invites visitors to slip into several digital alter egos, to try out other virtual lives.
An opportunity to experiment and reflect on the part of oneself that each player instills in an avatar to give it a little life, a way of creating another life in the game.
The exhibition invites us to become aware of the mountain of waste generated by our productivist economy, and to reveal its value, with a view to drastically reducing its quantity.
Starting from the observation that our irresponsible way of designing, producing and consuming will leave an indelible and potentially toxic mark on future generations, this exhibition celebrates a circular economy in which design could contribute to the advent of a new era in which waste rhymes with new resources.

In a densely populated world, whether of humans or virtual avatars on social networks, crowds tend to become part of our daily lives. In classical culture, on the other hand, crowds are lauded for all their vices, and the experience of them in public transport, at a match or at a public event is liable to arouse unease and anxiety.
But what actually happens when we are in a crowd? How can we understand this singular phenomenon, which is much more than the simple sum of its parts?

The Space Mission exhibition takes you on a journey into the space world of today and tomorrow. It invites you to step into the shoes of a spaceman and experience a waking dream for the duration of your visit. The tour is divided into five sections - explore, travel, transit, stay and question - and provides an overview of research, technology and thinking about space missions. It allows visitors to discover the reality and complexity of this field, and to glimpse the opportunities that space offers us, but also its limits.
Mr Chip is quite a handyman, and even a genius inventor! A nature lover, he decides to settle in the forest to listen to the birdsong. But to build the house of his dreams, he adds numerous extensions, at the risk of destroying the forest he loves so much...

Calling all budding astronauts: set out to discover the Universe's most mysterious celestial objects - black holes! There are so many preconceived ideas about them, and their very name is troubling. What do we really know about them? Is space exploration even a possibility? Help us find out.
Galileo has been under house arrest since his trial for heresy. However, the Planetarium at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie is celebrating its 459th anniversary.
Surprise guests include Cosimo II de' Medici, Johannes Kepler and Urban VIII.
To cheer up our host, the mediator turns DJ for the duration of the show. His playlist, featuring Dua Lipa, Daft Punk and many others, becomes the pretext for evoking the discoveries and life story of this great physicist, who was also a philosopher, mathematician and astronomer.
In the darkness of an ordinary starry night, the performance frees itself from its narrative constraints, and image and sound become the actors in a live audiovisual experience that defies the concept of beauty.
