The Nuit des Musées 2025 program at the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire Paul Éluard in Saint-Denis :

  • Guided tour of the exhibition "Les tissus simultanés de Sonia Delaunay. A modern vision"
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 - 16:00 ⤏ 17:00, 18:00 ⤏ 19:00, 20:00 ⤏ 21:00

Based on plates engraved by the Ferret Frères factory in Saint-Denis from drawings by Sonia Delaunay, the exhibition offers a rediscovery of the textile creations of this multi-disciplinary artist. Preserved by the Musée d'art et d'histoire Paul-Eluard, the 400 or so woodblock prints reflect the artist's modern aesthetic, from an angle renewed by recent research and restoration, as well as by their unprecedented character. The exhibition highlights the ancient technique of printing on cloth, which the Dionysian factory was one of the few to have mastered at the beginning of the 20th century.

Halfway between the decorative arts, painting and handicrafts, these plates are the matrices for some one hundred motifs for simultaneous fabrics, printed for the artist between 1924 and 1929. These fabrics were marketed and brought a new breath of fresh air, promoting a modern perception of color, contrast, form and movement. Preparatory gouaches, color cards and photographs illustrate the originality and influence of Sonia Delaunay's artistic practice.

Curated by Pauline Fleury, head of the collections department at the Musée d'art et d'histoire Paul Eluard.

The exhibition catalog, published by Bernard Chauveau Édition, is on sale at the museum store.
