This year, the Fête de la musique is also being celebrated at the former Censier-Daubenton faculty in Paris. On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, we're heading for the new Césure third-place, to the rhythm of several queer groups and a queer and feminist batucada!

The Fête de la musique returns on June 21 with another free, festive program! A popular event celebrated at the same time every year, the Fête de la Musique is an opportunity to attend a wide range of free concerts all over France.

Here's a quick reminder for the younger set. The Fête de la Musique was created in 1982 on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. That year, the Ministry of Culture's studies and research department conducted a major survey of French cultural practices. It revealed that five million people, including one young person in two, play a musical instrument. So Jack Lang, architect and scenographer Christian Dupavillon, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret came up with the idea of a major popular event to enable all musicians to express themselves and make themselves known. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.

And so, for over 40 years now, the Fête de la Musique has been bringing live music to our ears every June 21. On this day, all styles are given pride of place, from rock and rap to electro, classical and jazz.

Parisians in search of unusual concerts are also in for a treat, with a whole host of good deals. This year, we're heading for Césure, the new Parisian third-place that is temporarily occupying the former Censier-Daubenton faculty.
