It's a moment that live music lovers look forward to every year. The Fête de la musique returns on Saturday, June 21, 2025, with a host of musical highlights to be discovered in bars and restaurants, in squares, parks and gardens, and on the water!
Every summer, this popular, festive and free event delights amateur musicians and singers, as well as curious onlookers and music lovers, who are delighted to be able to wander around the capital enjoying free concerts.
The first Fête de la Musique was launched in 1982 on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. That year, the Ministry of Culture's studies and research department conducted a major survey of French cultural practices. It revealed that five million people, including one young person in two, play a musical instrument. So Jack Lang, architect and scenographer Christian Dupavillon, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret came up with the idea of a major popular event to enable all musicians to express themselves and make themselves known. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
In 2025, more than 40 years after its launch, the Fête de la musique continues to resonate and thrill us every June 21. So, what's on this year's program in Paris? There's plenty to get excited about, including a musical experience with the French Air Force. The famous military brass band will be playing in Paris on June 21, 2025, from 5pm to 10.30pm, aboard the famous Bateaux-Mouches!
Set up along the banks of the Seine or on the bridges of Paris, spectators can enjoy three military ensembles, offering a variety of musical performances, blending brass and jazz sounds.
