Good news for our musician friends, as the Fête de la musique returns on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 throughout France with a new, 41st edition! With its rich and eclectic program, the Fête de la Musique is an opportunity for budding musicians to share their passion with as many people as possible over the course of a single, festive day. All genres are honored. Whether you're into rock, rap, electro, world music or classical music... you're bound to find what you're looking for!
The Fête de la Musique was created in 1982 on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. That year, the Ministry of Culture's studies and research department conducted a major survey of French cultural practices. It revealed that five million people, including one young person in two, play a musical instrument. So Jack Lang, architect and scenographer Christian Dupavillon, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret came up with the idea of a major popular event to enable all musicians to express themselves and make themselves known. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
If you're planning to celebrate in the Val-de-Marne, then head for the town of Cachan, which this year offers a program mixing pop rock and rap. But be warned: in 2023, the town of Cachan celebrates music on Friday June 23, two days after the official date of the mythical popular and festive event. On the menu? A free concert by Cats on Trees and singer Uzi Freyja in Parc Raspail from 8pm.
From June 16 to 25, Cachan is also offering a series of free concerts by amateur groups.
