The Rocky Horror Picture Show has gone from being a total flop on release to a cult film in its own right. Released in 1975, this totally madcap musical is at the heart of a cinematic tradition that should be experienced at least once in a lifetime. It's the tradition of interactive screenings in which the audience lets loose, mocking scenes, hijacking songs, throwing water at each other, throwing rice at each other and so on. All in all, a joyous way to let off steam!
Intrigued? Well, we haven't finished surprising you! In Paris, there's an independent cinema called Studio Galande. What makes it special? It's the last cinema in Europe to continue the tradition of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Every week, the film is shown in VOST and the session is hosted by a cast of crazy performers. And once you get into the swing of things, it's hard to get enough!
Before attending this unusual screening, a shopping list sets the scene: a bottle of water, rice, a newspaper, toilet paper, confetti and so on! As you can imagine, the show doesn't just take place on screen, or on stage. It's the whole room that's going to be taking part in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Including you!
Rest assured, you don't have to be a fan of the film to get in on the fun. The troupe, dressed as characters from the film, warm up the room, briefing you with humor and skilfully creating a completely madcap atmosphere. It doesn't take long for everyone to get into the swing of things: dirty jokes are thrown around, rice is thrown around to celebrate the wedding, water is sprayed on each other during a thunderstorm, we howl with laughter, in short, we have a blast... and all this in a movie theater, don't forget!
