Good news for fantastic movie fans!
In 2021, M. Night Shyamalan is back on the big screen to scare us a little big more.
His new movie, “Old”, is to be out on July 21, 2021 in France.
Since “Glass”, released in January 2019, we were expecting M. Night Shyamalan to return.
In the meantime, he directed a few episodes of “The Servant”, a series he produced available on Apple TV+.
But we are looking forward to discovering his new feature-length movie, “Old”.
And “The Sixth Sense”, “Unbreakable”, and “Split” director promises us to scare us with “Old” this summer.
It is loosely based on graphic novel “Sandcastle” out in 2010 and written by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frederick Peeters.
“Old” is a fantastic scarry movie starring Gael Garcia Bernal (“Cuban Network”…), Vicky Krieps (“Colonia”…), Rufus Sewell (“The Father”), Ken Leung (Topher in “The Night Shift”), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Erin Gray in “Luther”), and Abbey Lee (“Lux Aeterna”, “Lovecraft Country”…).
Plot:
On a tropical vacation, a family stops for a few hours on a secluded beach where they discover their aging process has been dramatically increased and their entire life will be limited to this ultimate day.

With "Old", M. Night Shyamalan delivers a very thorough fantastic movie.
The setting of this paradise island - turning into a nightmare - reminds us of the one from Jeff Wadlow's horror move released in early 2020, "Fantasy Island".
In "Old", the atmopshere is heavy, dense. We know there is something wrong with the island. Although the main topic is known - premature aging - M. Night Shyamalan spares his effects: he first records children from their backs, before showing how old they aged. The director shows a certain talent to shoot and direct young children. Like in showing the aging process on screen: each character grows older their own way. One of the women has done a lot of botox, the other becomes deaf in one ear, one of the men becomes blind. Physical characteristics the movie director has endeavored showing to the public, with bad quality sound or blurry pictures. What a sense for details.
M. Night Shyamalan - who got himself a part in his movie - knows how to keep things interesting to the very end. And despite the circumstances, at the end, he gives a bit of hope.
