Martin Scorsese returns to the silver screen with Killers of the Flower Moon, the adaptation of David Grann's 2017 book. This new film reunites Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons in an investigation into the pursuit of native American killers by settlers, which led to the birth of the FBI. The feature film is due in cinemas on October 18, 2023.

Killers of the Flower Moon reunites great actors around a story that has fascinated Americans, plunging them back into their heavy past, that of theOsage killings , an Oklahoma Indian tribe whose murders remained long unexplained until David Grann's analysis. Martin Scorsese's film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro, is due in cinemas on October 18.

Trailer for Killers of the Flower Moon

For David Grann, author of the investigation released in 2017, the fate of the Osages is due to the granting of land by the American government, which turns out to be oil reserves. Having inadvertently become rich, these Indians were murdered without anyone understanding why. At the time, American justice was not the same, and an American, J. Edgar Hoover, took control of the investigation and revolutionized the United States with a method that would become that of the FBI.

We won't go into too much detail about the plot, to preserve it for you, but what we can say is that Killers of the Flower Moon is a masterpiece! At the age of 80, Martin Scorsese is still at the top of his game, offering us this fresco of American history, a sweeping tale where, despite its 3.5 hours, there's never a dull moment. Not a single second is wasted - on the contrary, we'd love more! The director of Goodfellas, Casino and many others, once again revisits his favorite themes: crime families, the mafia, twists, betrayals, tragedies and broken tribes.

This tribe is the Osages, native Americans who have become rich thanks to oil. And of course, everyone around them covets this fortune, starting with Ernest, the character brilliantly played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and his uncle, William, played by Robert de Niro. From that moment on, the viewer is taken on an immense journey. And we came away deeply moved. Surrounded by an exceptional cast, the main duo are unsurprisingly perfect, but we must of course mention Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons and the recently Oscar-winning Brendan Fraser, all of whom excel in very different roles.

The sheer number of plots and themes is mind-boggling. It's understandable that the film took so long to see the light of day, for the work involved is Homeric, and the result is impressive. Martin Scorsese blends the little and the big of American history. It's great cinema, the likes of which you rarely see. If you like feature films like Once Upon a Time in America or The Godfather, this is sure to please!
