Specializing in beautiful dramatic comedies, Lisa Azuelos(Lol, My Baby, I Love America) returns with The House of Wonders. The film is expected in theaters on March 15.
This is not the first time that Julien Sandrel 's novel has been adapted. A play has been performed at the Théâtre des Variétés since January 13. In the film, Alexandra Lamy plays a mother who fulfills all the dreams of Louis, her 12-year-old son, who fell into a coma after an accident. Muriel Robin plays his mother. A beautiful drama to discover with your family.
Our opinion
In spite of a script that is too obvious, La Chambre des Merveilles is very touching. The struggle of this mother to save her son from the coma in which he fell is touching. All the more so since the journey she embarks on makes no sense at all. And if it doesn't really save the young boy, it at least allows his mother to know him better and to discover the interests they don't talk about.
Thelma then sets herself a crazy challenge, that of making young Louis'"Bucket list". This is the opportunity for the filmmaker Liza Azuelos to put her camera everywhere in the world, and obviously, in paradisiacal places. We take advantage of this opportunity to see a lot, even if we regret the uninspired direction. On the other hand, Thelma's achievements are a bit easy. Most of her son's "things to do before the end of the world" are deemed impossible, but she manages to do them in a few minutes, and it is sometimes hard to believe in the script's tricks.
Nevertheless, the film allows the viewer to travel, and above all, the self-sacrifice of this mother commands respect and should appeal to those who can identify with the character.
It is the crazy bet of a mother ready to do anything to help her son wake up from his coma. After the accident of Louis, 12 years old, Thelma decides to realize in his place the "10 things to do before the end of the world" that he had written in his diary. By listening to these adventures, Louis will see how beautiful life is and that he must come back! By fulfilling a teenager's dreams at the age of forty, Thelma will live an incredible journey that will take her much further than she ever imagined...
