Anselm, Wim Wenders' documentary on the artist Anselm Kiefer, will be shown in a Special Screening at Cannes 2023 and in French cinemas from October 18, 2023.

Anselm, a documentary directed by Wim Wenders, explores the work of Kiefer, known for his monumental installations in steel, lead and concrete, and focuses on his ultimate project in Barjac, southern France. The film is due in cinemas from October 18.

The documentary offers a fascinating insight into the Domaine de La Ribaute, where Kiefer lived for 15 years. This unique 40-hectare site is home to an artistic utopia of strange towers, giant cubes, monumental works and a complex network of underground passages. Anselm Kiefer allows viewers to discover this exceptional space, and the creative process behind it.

Directed by the talented Wim Wenders, Anselm offers a unique insight into the life and work of one of the world's most celebrated contemporary artists. The documentary is a visual and emotional experience, highlighting the immensity and complexity of Kiefer's work.

Aimed above all at art lovers with a taste for aestheticism and the folly of grandeur, Anselm is nonetheless a watchable film, even if you don't have an artistic bent or an in-depth knowledge of the works of this contemporary German artist. The artist explores his past on an almost dreamlike journey, encountering his most beautiful pieces and sharing "the noise of time" with his audience.

If at first we were worried about the use of 3D in such a film, the process proves to be a key to the success of this montage. It brings a depth of field that allows us to better apprehend the immensity of the works presented, placing the tiny artist at the heart of his creations, offering us an introspection whose sincerity shines through on screen.

In this way, Wim Wenders offers us a film that is slow, but always in motion, and that gradually reveals itself if we take the time to savor it.
