If you're a regular reader, then you're probably familiar with Grid, the interactive floor gaming experiences that have been springing up like mushrooms for several months now in France, and for longer in other countries. An activity that requires you to walk on luminous tiles to complete a series of requested interactions, or not to walk, on the contrary, on certain tiles, in a version of The Floor is Lava.
That's where Active Room comes in, a new immersive leisure space opening its doors in the 12th arrondissement. The nearly 400 m² space not only offers this type of experience, but also a bar area, as well as table soccer, board games and darts.
Two playrooms are available to visitors. The first,"Long Grid", is a 30 m² zone designed for groups of 2 to 6 people. The aim is to avoid the red tiles that slow players' progress. The second,"Super Grid", extends to 40 m² and accommodates up to 8 participants. Here, cooperation is essential to disable the blue tiles and maximize the score. Games last 20 minutes and can be chained or spaced according to player preference.
Our review of Active Room:
An activity that the editors were able to try out one evening in March. Ideally located opposite the Cinémathèque, the place is in a rather quiet area, a good thing if you want to take it easy... Because that's what The Grid is all about: taking time out to play, whether in The Grid rooms or in the reception area, which includes a bar, arcade, table soccer and darts.
But let's get back to what interests us here: The Grid rooms! There are two of them, and both offer the same activities. The principle: depending on the game, you have to step on blue tiles to turn them off, while avoiding red tiles. Simple... basic. So you're going to say"yes, but isn't it all a bit repetitive?". On paper, perhaps, but in practice, not at all. The reason? The sheer number of games available, making each one very different from the next. Snake, 1,2,3 Soleil, submersive waves, clockwork... So many possible experiences, all based on the same concept, but with a different approach each time.
Add to this the possibility of choosing the game you want to play on a single screen, or the various modes on offer (versus mode, challenge mode...). In short, there's nothing to get bored of. As for the two rooms, please note that they are not laid out in the same way: the"Long Grid" is, as its name suggests, on the long side, while the"Super Grid" has a larger surface area. And that's the whole point of playing both rooms: their configurations mean that the experience changes completely, despite the same games and modes being available.
On the other hand, we warn you: it's sporty! You'll be running in all directions, and even sweating. But it's a pretty cool experience, and should be a lot of fun whether you're with family or friends. An experience we'd recommend to anyone who's curious... On the other hand, if you're not athletic, or if being cooped up in a room gives you pimples, this is not the activity for you. All you have to do is make up your own mind!
A new game,"Push", is also in the pipeline. In this future attraction, the walls will be equipped with over 800 buttons, adding a new dynamic to the challenges offered by Active Room. Enough to keep you entertained for hours in the heart of Paris! Ready to try it out?
