Dans le Noir? A spa in the dark

Company Dans le Noir? offers several experiences in the dark in Paris: the restaurant, the delicatessen where perfume workshops take place as well as the spa.

Dans le Noir? le spa is a spa where all practitioners are certified masseurs and who are partially-sighted or blind. For a treatment, this one-of-a-kind spa offers us to be in the dark, partially-sighted people’s universe, for a unique experience.

Massages are custom-made: practitioners constantly adapt themselves to the needs of their clients and trust their feelings. They ask about the areas where to insist and the ones to avoid. They test their strength so that the client can choose the level of strength they desire.

The spa offers several kinds of massages (feet, with warm stones, duo classes…) of varied lengths (starting from 20 minutes) as well as treatments (hammam, body scrub, body wrap, face treatment…) and packages mixing treatments and massage. The hammam costs from €30, massages from €37.

The hammam, you can privatize for an additional cost, is also almost in the dark. As a matter of fact, it’s only lit with a muted light like a very low “starry sky”. It’s one of the darkest hammams we’ve every visited. Heated at 47°C (116.6°F), it features a shower inside.

In one of the “wellness ritual” packages, the 20 minutes of hammam are followed by a 30-minute massage. During this time, the practitioner offers to massage two areas of your choice.

When we enter the massage room, it’s not (yet) completely in the dark: a tiny light allows us to have enough light to get changed. Then, the masseur offers a massage in total darkness or to leave the light on if you feel more comfortable. Then the masseur starts by letting his hand moving on your body to initiate contact with the touch.

The fact we’re in the dark wakes senses even more. It’s very relaxing because absolutely nothing troubles the view, all the more so as a lovely relaxing music accompanies this wellness moment. It’s very pleasant.
Choosing a massage in the dark is to make sure you won’t face the judging look of someone else. It’s a solution for those who have deserted spas out of modesty.

During your massage, the practitioner uses various technics he/she learned throughout their training but will use only the one asked by the client in case of a specific request (lomi-lomi, Balinese…).

The level dedicated to treatments of the institute is very dark: a practitioner will accompany and guide you all along your movements.
