From November 7, 2018 to February 2019, for the reopening of the MEP, photographer JR has carte blanche for a compelling exhibition. It’s not like it’s everyday at the MEP, JR can take over all the areas within the MEP and won’t share the headline with other solo-show photographers.
With the complicity of Jean-Luc Monterosso and Dominique Bertinotti, the exhibition curators, JR can use the place and make the MP live with the talent of his. For over 15 years, JR travels the whole world to photograph unknown people and display their portraits (and even their bodies) in the streets thanks to oversized collages that made his fame.
JR’s art is displayed on Parisian suburbs apartment blocks (we think about his INSIDE OUT project on the walls of the Habitat & Humanisme apartment buildings), on the Middle-East walls, on African broken bridges in Brazilian favelas.
For this great work, JR uses a large truck transformed into a mobile photo studio allowing immediate developments. We’ve often seen him, at Centre Pompidou in 2012 and in 2014 when he took over the Pantheon to create a tarpaulin covered in hundreds of portraits of Parisians on the occasion of renovation work, a way to make Parisian people achieve posterity.
So, what does JR has in store at the MEP? Be patient, you’ll know on November 7, 2018.
