Annie Ernaux 's work will be honored this winter and spring in Paris with a brand-new exhibition. Entitled " Extérieurs - Annie Ernaux et la photographie ", the installation runs from Wednesday February 28 to Sunday May 26, 2024 at the MEP, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie.
For the occasion, the MEP is unveiling the close relationship between photography andAnnie Ernaux's writing. To mark the occasion, the museum is bringing together 150 prints by 29 photographers from around the world (Claude Dityvon, Dolorès Marat, Daido Moriyama, William Klein, Janine Niepce, Issei Suda, Henry Wessel, Bernard Pierre Wolff...) from the museum's collection, to be combined with the texts ofAnnie Ernaux, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2022.
Since the early 2020s, Annie Ernaux has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity, notably with the adaptations of her novels"Passion Simple", but also, and above all,"L'événement", which was awarded the Golden Lion at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.
The exhibition " Extérieurs - Annie Ernaux et la photographie ", curated by writer Lou Stoppard, will focus on the main themes ofAnnie Ernaux's book " Journal du dehors ". Visitors to the installation will be able to travel to the four corners of France, as well as to England, Japan and the United States, thanks to carefully selected photos and powerful texts from this 1993 book, displayed on the interior walls of the MEP for the occasion.
