Fashion-addicts, here's thefree, must-seecouture exhibition for back-to-school! From September 24 to October 23, 2024, La Samaritaine and WWD China collaborate to celebrate Chinese embroidery in its most fashionable guise. Ten talented young Chinese designers revisit this age-old art through their pieces, blending tradition, innovation and modern inspiration. In the department store, we discover a sculpted dress recalling the grace of ceramics, or a lantern silhouette inspired by the crinolines of the past. Each creation draws on a wide range of influences, from Jules Verne to Monet to Chinese cinema classics.
Under the watchful eye of curator Rosalie Huang, designers including Chen Peng, Feng Chen Wang, Susan Fang, Caroline Hu and Leaf Xia draw on China's rich heritage to reinvent techniques such as gold and silver thread embroidery from Guangdong and sculptural embroidery from the Huangzhong committee. The result? An ideal marriage of tradition and modernity, with an eye to sustainable fashion and a new generation of designers to watch closely.
And for the most creative among you, don't miss an exclusive workshop with Leaf Xia on September 27 and 28, 2024, from 2pm to 6pm. The opportunity to immortalize your Fashion Week look through thread in a duo with the artist, and leave with a unique hand-embroidered work. No appointment necessary, just talent and inspiration!
This fashion exhibition, marking 60 years of Franco-Chinese relations, invites lovers of art, fashion and traditional know-how to plunge into the refined world of Chinese embroidery at La Samaritaine!
