A multi-talented artist who moved to Paris in 1981, Boris Zaborov has never stopped painting the landscapes of his childhood. The Maison Caillebotte is organizing a major retrospective in the artist's honor, from May 17 to September 21, 2025. Come and discover Boris Zaborov's poetic and nostalgic paintings, with the exhibition Peindre la mémoire.
Born in Minsk and trained at the Soviet Academy of Fine Arts, Boris Zabonov left Russia to live his passion in Paris. Not only a painter, but also a sculptor, draughtsman, engraver, ceramist and scenographer, the artist has tried his hand in many fields, appropriating techniques and imposing his own universe in each creation.
Boris Zabonov's large-format, monochrome palettes plunge us into his memories of Belarus and Russia. In these landscapes and portraits from another era, the artist continues to bring to life the Russia of his childhood. Time seems to stand still on the canvas of these nostalgic paintings, like old photographs that hold forgotten stories for themselves.
Boris Zabonov is a renowned painter who has won numerous prizes and awards, not only for his mastery of the art of painting, but also for his knowledge of art history. As a result, there are numerous references to other artists and works in the master's paintings. For connoisseurs, this exhibition can become a game: go in search of Boris Zabonov's winks and inspirations!
Theexhibition follows a chronological order: from his formative years in the mid-twentieth century to his very last works in 2020, (re)discover the painter's most important creations. Come to the Maison Caillebotte this summer to find out all about this artist!
