When art meets nature... Palais de Tokyo invites you to discover artist Vivian Suter's Discoexhibition, from June 13 to September 8, 2025. This immersive project brings together almost 500 canvases painted over the last twenty years in the artist's garden in Panajachel, Guatemala.
The works are presented in the museum's Grande Verrière, a space more akin to the street than a traditional museum environment. The exhibition also includes collages by Elisabeth Wild, the artist's mother.
Vivian Suter, who has lived in Guatemala since the 1980s, conceives her work in close relationship with the surrounding nature. The paintings, produced on a daily basis, capture both the artist's gestures and the marks left by vegetation, animals and the elements.
Untitled and undated, these canvases are freely arranged, stacked or hung, forming a proliferating installation. This process is part of a reflection on " the serene, lucid acceptance of the climatic conditions that impact our lives, and of the finitude of works of art ".
Born in Buenos Aires in 1949, Vivian Suter grew up in Switzerland before settling on the shores of Lake Atitlán. She is represented by several international galleries. Her artistic career includes appearances at documenta 14 and exhibitions at several major institutions, including the Reina Sofia in Madrid, MAAT in Lisbon and Moderna Museet in Malmö.
The Discoexhibition at the Palais de Tokyo is organized in collaboration with MAAT, and will be accompanied by a monographic publication in four languages. A discussion with the artist is also scheduled for Saturday June 14, 2025. Ready to enter the heart of artistic nature at Palais de Tokyo?
