To celebrate the 68th anniversary of the Fifth Republic, numerous events are organized nationwide around the legal profession and its institutions, aimed at revealing to the general public the ins and outs of this great machine. On Monday evening, October 5, 2026, enjoy the Night of the Law, a free and open-to-all event, to tour institutions, meet parliamentarians, judges, lawyers or notaries, and take part in unprecedented activities.
On 4 October 1958, France joined the Fifth Republic with Charles de Gaulle as its first president. That’s why, since 2017, this national event takes place on this day (not this year, as it falls on a Sunday), to remind us that the law protects freedoms and underpins the healthy functioning of the country’s democratic life. On the evening’s program, in Paris and the Île-de-France region, expect an eloquence contest, a mock trial, an exhibition, a film-and-debate, theatre, a conference, and numerous roundtables.
The Paris Court of Appeal, the Superior Council of the Judiciary, the Economic Activities Tribunal, the Council of State — so many institutions opening their doors and hosting activities to give you a behind-the-scenes look! For the full programme near you, head to the site of the Nuit du Droit!
