Considered the most beautiful avenue in the world, the Champs-Elysées is also the stage for the arrival of the Tour de France. However, in one of the adjacent streets, theHôtel le Lancaster is the starting point for a gourmet epic which also, in its own way, sheds light on regional treasures. To discover it, you'll have to visit Monsieur, the restaurant of this confidential, century-old hotel.
At the heart of its elegant, intimate restaurant, where a friendly team awaits you, each month you'll discover a menu dedicated to a different region of France. A return to our roots for some, a tantalizing discovery for others, the concept invites us to revisit our classics with gourmet plates, expertly crafted from our star products. The regional menu, which awaits us at lunchtime, is priced at €49 for starter & main course or main course & dessert. The full menu is €59. Both include water and coffee.
During our visit, the Rhône-Alpes region was in the spotlight. With the city of Lyon, considered the capital of gastronomy, as one of its standard-bearers, it was a mouth-watering event. For starters, the menu featured melt-in-the-mouth pike quenelles served in a copper dish and topped with a fragrant lobster bisque and button mushrooms. Quite comforting without being too heavy, this introduction whetted our appetites.
For the main course, we'll be sticking with maritime flavors, with a plate that's as beautifully presented as ever, featuring a well-cooked Arctic char, accompanied by young endives braised with blood orange, a combo that's full of pep and well-balanced. The proportions are well-calculated, so that you can make it through to dessert without struggling to finish your plate. And that's a good thing, because to round off this stopover in the Rhône-Alpes region, the sweet treats are worth the fork!
One example is theÎle Flottante with pink pralines, very pretty and tasty, not too sweet, with a slightly tangy custard at its heart to counterbalance it all. Another gourmet option is the Mont-Blanc in tartlet form, with its smooth chestnut cream and a hint of blackcurrant.
