We're off to Bourron-Marlotte, a charming village in the Pays de Fontainebleau region, to discover the Café de la Paix. Not to be confused with the Parisian café, since this one is located in Seine-et-Marne.
Nestled in an old renovated building, a stone's throw from the Château de Bourron and the forest of Fontainebleau, this discreet address has everything you could wish for. Behind its brick facade, Café de la Paix combines the warmth of a bistro with the finesse of fine cuisine, with a menu that gives pride of place to fresh, seasonal produce. Lunch is available on weekdays, with a starter-main course-dessert menu at €29.
Located in the heart of this village steeped in history, this café has long been a meeting point for local artists, writers and painters, particularly when Bourron-Marlotte attracted figures from the Barbizon artistic colony. Today, this friendly, charming place continues to cultivate its heritage, offering a warm atmosphere faithful to the spirit of the cafés of yesteryear.
The heat is on, so we take advantage of the lovely terrace, hidden from the street, but you're free to relax in the beautiful dining room with its many tables.

Special mention for the homemade potato chips served on the tables as an aperitif. For starters, farm eggs from Ferme des Galaches are dressed with a smoked paprika mayonnaise, thin slices of chorizo and mustard pickles. An effective appetizer, spicy and full of texture.
The Charolais beef carpaccio, meanwhile, blends arugula pesto, onion pickles and Parmesan shavings for a fresh, well-balanced starter. Nothing ostentatious, but a well-executed balance of flavors.
On the main course, a generous plate of Label Rouge free-range pork ribs is served with a velvety corn cream, popcorn and a tangy pico de gallo. The combination is unexpected but works wonders, combining sweetness, crunch and freshness. The lighter cod back is perfectly cooked and served with a punchy aji verde, raw fennel confit and orange vinaigrette. Once again, the dish impresses with its precision and originality.
Finally, roasted rhubarb is combined with vanilla ganache, strawberry salad with fresh mint and a crunchy almond streusel. Gourmet, fruity and well presented. We also try the yuzu Breton sablé, accompanied by a lemon cream, basil and a fine meringue tuile: a dessert with floral and tangy notes, perfect to finish on a fresh note.
The service is pleasant, the atmosphere friendly and the plates beautifully presented. An accessible bistronomy that doesn't try to show off, but seduces with its sincerity and high standards. The restaurant regularly organizes concert evenings and gourmet events, and is even considering opening rooms upstairs to extend the experience.
