No need to look any further, we probably found the best hiding place in rue Oberkampf. Located in a small dead end in the middle of all kinds of artists’ studios, this bar with a red-brick façade didn’t steal its same (L’Impasse meaning dead end in French) and seduces us right away. A beautiful and wide room filled of bargain-hunted pieces, walls covered in paintings, a bar promoting quality products and a small stage to welcome musicians and other performers. In short, an alternative place sweetly smelling art and friendliness!
Speaking of the menu, L’Impasse offers rather basic but sophisticated alcohols (beer, wines, spirits, champagnes, cocktails). We taste a delicious organic red wine “Causses toujours”, slightly smoked but very light and tasty and a signature cocktail “French Detox” (gin, lime, basil, cucumber) perfectly measured and oh-so delicious!
For dinner, L’Impasse even offers a menu with very good products at affordable prices: “Label Rouge” salmon tartare, foie gras, terrines, pâtés, vegan lasagnas, sandwich and its specialty: the cold cuts and cheese platers – excellent and very hearty, perfect for a small aperitif with friends to talk about modern art and setting the world to rights.
In addition to be a synonym to good mood and blowouts, L’Impasse is a hybrid place which artistic shifting and cultural turmoil impress us: the bar houses new exhibitions weekly (opening on Tuesdays) as well as artists’ studios (especially silkscreen printing studio). It also organizes short and long-films screenings and concerts. L’Impasse often invites La Ruche qui dit oui as well, allowing us to buy local and artisanal products baskets.
No doubt: we feel at ease in this big loft full of arts and ideas so much that we’d like to stay for entire evenings. We’ll gladly be back in the weekend to taste the very gourmet brunch served at a table (€19) – with fresh squeezed juice, unlimited hot drinks, Benedict egg, Florentine eggs or Norwegian egg, maple syrup pancake and fresh fruits salad!
