A strange place is coming to 25 rue Victor Massé in the Pigalle district. The mysterious façade surrounded by candles catches the eyes of curious passersby. Quickly glance at the windows and see the soft atmosphere where a barman works. The spot is far too great not to stop: let us get it and our curiosity is rewarded. We are at Yagō, an uncommon and intimate bar bearing all the charm of Pigalle.
As soon as we get in, we fell in love with this new place – the second venue by Monkey. A lit pink marble bar, rows of spirits laying under the terracotta arches, and a dance pole surrounded by gold mosaic… This is the vibe provided by Yagō.
We are invited to turn on the left and discover the boudoir-inspired lounge covered in velvet, tapestries and cushions. We almost feel like in a movie, in the middle of a brothel from the Belle Epoque. Here, all the charm of Pigalle is displayed, a district both trendy and scandalous but that fascinates us.
At the bar, one is working hard shaking exclusive cocktails changing with the seasons. Some are inspired by famous recipes but revisited with exotic flavors. Discover their own version of the Cosmopolitan based on hibiscus and kefir lime-infused vodka, yuzu and pomegranate. And we also fell for the jasmine-infused gin, pear juice, lemon, sugar syrup and champagne, lighter than the previous one.
Matcha fans will be happy to enjoy a creation highlighting their favorite tea with whisky, honey and yuzu, a heart-stopping cocktail you want to try. Last but not least, another cocktail you want to enjoy, the one based on white rum, Umeshu (prune liqueur), and prune juice: very fruity and tasty, it is likely to delight sweet toothed patrons.
To pair these sophisticated creations, Yagō invites us to enjoy Nikkei cuisine based on raw fish. It could surprise some people and yet, you will notice cocktails get along with the different dishes very well. The sashimi tuna toro with spicy miso is perfectly seasoned and likely to delight even those who are not very familiar with spice and the fish literally melts in the mouth. We also loved the blow-torched seabream sashimi and aji limòn that delighted because it was full of peps and slightly grilled and crunchy flavors. Anyway, we highly recommend Yagō to think outside the box.
It would have been enough to make of Yagō a heart-stopper to us. But the bar takes it a step further. Do you remember the dance pole at the entrance? Well, if you want to try pole dancing, you can use it to your heart’s content! And this is not all since the place also lives to the rhythm of DJ sets while at weekends, burlesque parties and drag-queen show are performed. You get it, this is a place to remember to enjoy a perfect night out in Pigalle!
