A new cocktail bar took over Paris Marais this past December 21. Its name? Maddalena. Behind this new venue stands the Rure company, already behind the Segreto – the temporary terrace hidden by the Opéra – and several Parisian events such as Madame et Monsieur Rure. This time, the dream team led by Mathieu Rutigliano has decided to settle in the Marais area to unveil a new temporary place likely to trigger the curiosity of many people until May 31.
We must say Maddalena is far more than a simple cocktail bar. Set in a former 500sqm art gallery, the place has been entirely redesigned by architect Gaelle Valin. It has now a circular stage, a neutral décor, as well as works of art making visitors enjoy a unique and original experience.
To blow you away, the venue’s art director has bet on lit works of art. These are the very light of Maddalena. Without them, the place would be dark. We love the “Incandescences” installation by Mathias Bensimon from Paris Fine Arts. Then displayed in Tokyo, Japan, this very beautiful painting (oil on Plexiglas) is to be admired until May 1st at Maddalena. Not far from there, discover masterpieces by Béatrice Bissara and Romain Lalire, two visual artists generally exhibited in galleries.
It is in this very artistic atmosphere expressed on all levels one can sip on cocktails available on the menu. For instance, go for the delicious “Kokou Fizz” based on gin, fresh yellow lemon, matcha syrup, egg white, and sparkling water, or the “Last Word” based on gin, green chartreuse, luxardo maraschino and fresh lime, without forgetting the fruity “Brumble” (gin, fresh yellow lemon, sugar syrup and blackberry).
But if you are more into classic and staple cocktails, go for the “Old Cuban” or “Vieux Carré”, or even “Spritz”.
To pair these drinks, enjoy delicious Mediterranean-inspired dishes to share by Rure’s chef. On the menu? A nice plate of organic egg with mayonnaise, served with puffed rice, pickles, nori seaweed, aromatic plants, as well as chickpea hummus, or even truffled ham from Metzger.
You can also discover the delicious honey-roasted feta with arugula, roasted walnuts, or the very scrumptious grilled cheese (with truffled butter). As for meat-eaters, they will definitely drool with the 8-hour cooked beef chuck steak, red cabbage confit, meat gravy, while exotic flavor fans will order the delicious cod fritters and their bitter-sweet dip.
So, are you ready to enjoy this experience both indulging and artistic by Maddalena in Paris? Run there!
