In the beautiful setting of the Dalí restaurant in the Meurice Hotel, under the monumental stretched canvas imagined by Ara Starc, this tea time offers a chance for total relaxation, all while being surrounded delicious treats.
Whether it’s tea for two or among friends, you can enjoy a break and a winter treat while being pampered by the staff at the Meurice. Courteous and attentive to detail, they truly put on a great spread. When you arrive, you have the choice between two types of tempting set menus: the classic menu option, with either tea, coffee or hot chocolate made by Alain Ducasse, or the champagne option (either brut or rosé).
Once you’ve made your choice, you can just sit back, relax and wait...for a large spread of treats, both savoury and sweet, laid right under your nose! Just like the tradition, tea time is served in an elegant three-tiered tea stand, with one tier for salted breads, one for various flavored scones and one for sweets.
When you see it, you might think for second, how could you ever finish all this? With 5 finger sandwiches per person, two scones, six cookies and financier biscuits, and just as many French pastries, you had better save your appetite and eat a light lunch beforehand! We love the savoury treats, with finger sandwiches like the tomato-mozarella-pesto, the beef-arugala gravlax and the foie-gras/chutney.
Then you move on to the homemade scones, small, lightly flavored cakes that are eaten with clotted cream and homemade jam. Then, depending on your appetite, you can let yourself give in to temptation with a Saint-Honoré au miel, a carmel éclair, a coconut Paris-Brest, or even fantastic fruits tactfully revisited as a flavorful small dish that leaves you speechless.
Served between 3:30pm and 6pm, this tea time is the perfect mid-day break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Meurice offers a quick breath of fresh air, a chance to let yourself be pampered by the staff and giving into the delicate painted porcelain, fashioned by Bernardaud in the 19th century style.
When the Meurice goes English style, we can’t resist! If the price seems high, we can guarantee that you will be getting a lot more than you would at a simple lunch. And don’t forget that the Meurice was THE first luxury hotel in Paris, considered the “King’s hotel,” and home of painter Salvador Dalí for over thirty years!
