We tried the new teatime in the Châtelet area! In full heart of Paris, young pastry chef Quentin Lechat treats us oh-so well in his Jardin Privé, hidden in a bubble thought up as a place where we can relax with a nice cup of tea…!

And if I tell you that a quiet bubble actually exists in Châtelet, a bubble where you can have a sit, take your time and enjoy a sweet break and at small price after a wild shopping spree? Very-well hidden, a few meters only from the Halles, Quentin Lechat’s Jardin Privé [Private Garden] is a true discovery.

To access it, you have to dare and push the door of a giant, the Hotel Novotel Paris Les Halles and ask for the access to the Jardin Privé. This Jardin Privé – although quite small – is very well set thanks to the bubble that protects us from the cold before warmer days. Tables for two, sofas and books to relax right in the middle of Paris!

The master of the place is Quentin Lechat, a young pastry chef who loves making people happy. Paris-Brest, napoleon, hazelnut mousse, Quentin Lechat has a sweet-tooth, but he also has a trick to stay fit: his gourmet desserts are low in sugar, and they are all very fresh thanks to plants that explode in the mouth!

For example, take this Paris-Brest, it’s not your average Paris-Brest with a butter cream and a puff pastry, this Paris-Brest is gourmet, fresh and easy to eat (we could even ask for a second one). His secrets? Instead of the butter cream, the chef uses mousseline cream (lower in fat) and works it twice with setting agent (yes, originally, the butter holds the cream!) and to make it less powerful in the mouth, Quentin Lechat infuses bitter orange flowers!

The pastry, hot drink and small cakes set menu costs €27, you can taste it every day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., excluding Tuesdays. Teams are really attentive and let us enjoy it very peacefully. For extra €10, you can make it last longer with a cocktail and stay for a pre-dinner drink!

If time stops in the bubble, the only flaw, the bubble protects us from the cold but also echoes everything and sometimes you can hear people talking from the other side of the room… But, as everyone talks about Quentin Lechat’s delicious pastries, we quickly get used to these talks enlivening the place!
