For Christmas 2023, La Grande Epicerie de Paris has once again chosen to bring you a wonderful, gourmet winter! For the occasion, the pastry chefs at the rue de Sèvres laboratory have imagined logs, of course, to share or in individual formats, but also an elegant Christmas cake, in tribute to the store's centenary. There's a wide choice of flavors: chocolate, praline and dried fruit, or mango, passion fruit and lime... The hardest part will be choosing! Let us reveal them to you?
Once again this year, La Grande Epicerie 's pastry chefs have rivaled each other in imagination to satisfy the most demanding taste buds. In an enchanted ballet of flavors and delights, they have created an exceptional Yule log to celebrate the centenary of the iconic department store. Much more than a dessert, the signature Yule log is a gourmet tale.
At the top is an art deco roof made of chocolate, topped with a homemade almond praline and dried fruit (pistachios, hazelnuts, caramelized almonds), in the style of a beggar. This coque-bijou leaves you the choice: succumb to it in an instant, or keep it for several weeks to make your Christmas dessert last.
Once the cocoa-colored headdress is removed, the gourmet interpretation of the marquise, which adorns the store's building, is revealed. A pain de Gênes cookie, finely chiselled like the mythical iron lace of La Grande Épicerie, crowns a gianduja mousse and an almond mousse, delicately placed on a crunchy crust.
On the first floor of this marvellous cake, a chocolate cookie anchors the delicacy in a case of milky sweetness.
La Grande Épicerie's two other pastry creations are the perfect embodiment of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche's Christmas 2023 theme:"Christmas in all its glory". Sparkling with chocolate chips and Christmas baubles, mini-maxi, the bûches from La Grande Épicerie are truly chic, gourmet adornments, available in two traditional flavors:
- The fruit log, an exquisite marriage of mango, passion fruit and lime jelly, enchants your taste buds from the very first bite. On a soft cookie cake base, it reveals delicious layers of coconut crunch, mango-passion compote and vamille-coconut mousse. The balance of flavors and textures is harmonious, creating a light log that will quickly become your favorite!
- The chocolate log is based on the same principle as its fruity counterpart. Here, all the interest lies in the mousse, made with cocoa nibs infused into the cream, a lighter version than chocolate mousse! The top of the dessert is crowned with a 50% Peru mousse, which adds complexity and character to the whole. The interplay of textures and flavors is a pleasant surprise, breaking up the sweetness of the cake.
